Obedience Training Classes

FPO&TC offers classes taught by our volunteer members at a variety of levels. The classes offered in any given session are based on the demand for them from our members and from the public. Here are some examples of the types of classes that may be offered in a given session. Please note that demand for classes is often great and they fill quickly, so we may not always have room in the next available session.

Pet Manners Classes

This is a pet manners class for the public, for dogs at least 5 months old. The focus of this class is on building a relationship between dog and handler while learning some basic obedience skills such as politely walking on a leash, coming when called, acceptance of handling, place, sit and down stay. Other skills are touched on, but the focus is on solidifying these foundations so that the dogs can do these things in a variety of circumstances.

Intro & Novice Competition

These classes are for graduates of pet manners classes who are working on the Novice level exercises. The focus of these classes is on improving focus, precision and body awareness while introducing formal Obedience and Rally skills including focused heeling, recalls, finishes, stand for exam, group stays and introducing foundation skills for advanced exercises.

Advanced Competition

These classes are for dogs working toward CDX or Utility who have already been through our Intro to Competition and Novice classes and are customized to the level of the students, teaching and problem solving exercises from the Open and Utility levels of Obedience.

Let’s train together.
